20 August, Kathmandu. Nepali Congress MP Prakash Singh Karki has objected to the increase in prices of petroleum products and especially LP gas for cooking during the calamity.
He criticized the government and the corporation for showing that Nepal Oil Corporation has given relief worth Rs.
Speaking at a program on 'Effects and Challenges on Supply and Value Chain after Rasuwa Flood' organized by Nepal Economic Journalists Society (SEJAN) in Kathmandu on Saturday, MP Karki said that the increase in gas prices has directly affected the poor to the middle class.
"Due to an increase of 105 rupees 38 paise per cylinder in gas, an additional burden of 11.59 million 18 thousand rupees has fallen on the consumers in Kathmandu Valley alone," he said while questioning the corporation's action, "What kind of policy is it to collect more than 11.5 million rupees from the public with the help of 2.594 thousand 400 rupees?" The relevant body should be serious about this.
Stating that gas has now become a mandatory and basic need of every class of citizen, he said that it is indispensable for cooking normal noodles to making other dishes.
He also argued that the attention of the state and concerned agencies is focused only on Kathmandu Valley, and the problems of the citizens of Mofasal should not be ignored. We are only talking about the 5 million population of Kathmandu. Citizens living outside the valley are also people, we should not forget that they also have problems," he said.
MP Karki has requested the government to immediately reconsider the price hike decision saying that if the prices of essential commodities like petrol, diesel, kerosene and LP gas increase, the prices will increase in the overall market and it will make the living standards of the common people more difficult.
