Kathmandu. Member of the House of Representatives of Ramechhap to speed up the search and rescue of 44 citizens of Ramechhap who went missing in the severe flood that occurred in Bhotekoshi on August 10th. Krishnahari Budhathoki has demanded from the government. Budhathoki, who is also the Chairman of the Finance Committee, while speaking at the Parliament meeting, drew the attention of the government to find out the situation of the missing persons.
A total of 80 people from Ramechhap working in Rasuwa went missing due to the flood. Out of which 36 people have come in contact with their families so far, it has been confirmed that Ramhari Khadka of Ramechhap died tragically. The remaining 44 people are still missing and their condition is unknown.
Speaking in Parliament, MP Budhathoki mentioned that the families of the missing persons are in great pain. The relatives who are missing in the disaster are in great pain. The family members are constantly contacting me and asking me to search for their loved ones," he said. "The government should give high priority to the safe search and rescue of the missing citizens and take more effective initiatives."
Reminding that Ramechhap district is surrounded by four glaciers and Chyorolpa Himalaya is in a very dangerous situation, MP Budhathoki stressed on the need to build a mechanism to save lives before disaster strikes. He demanded continuous scientific monitoring of glaciers, rivers and watersheds and installation of a reliable early warning system.
He suggested that automatic sirens, mobile alerts and rescue capacity should be enhanced at the community level for disaster management.
Dr. Dr. Budhathoki urged the government to raise the issue of 'climate justice' more strongly in international forums.
