Qatar has warned that the Gulf region countries, including Iran, will be more affected if an Internet cable laid under the sea in the Strait of Hormuz is interrupted.

Qatar has also requested an immediate stop to attacks and threats targeting waterways. Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Director of the Communications Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, said in a weekly press briefing on Tuesday that if the undersea cable is interrupted, the countries in the region will suffer greatly.

If you honestly think about who is most affected, the answer is clear. "Countries in the region, including Iran, will be more affected than America or Israel," he said.

Iran's security chief, Mohsen Rezaei, has warned that if there is another war with the US, attacks on internet cables, data centers and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure across the region could occur. Then came this statement from Qatar.

According to Al Hashemi, the waters of the Straits of Hormuz are important for irrigation, salt production and fisheries in the countries of the region. Damage to the watershed may also put water safety at risk.

"Water security in the waterways of Hormuz is inextricably linked to the water security of our region and people," he said. Hashmi also called for maintaining freedom of navigation in waterways and protecting the marine environment as per international law.

He also said that Qatar will continue to mediate to resolve the tension between the US and Iran. He said that finding a peaceful solution through dialogue rather than military action is the best way to preserve regional stability.
