19 August, Kathmandu. The Flood Forecasting Division has said that the lake formed by the landslide caused by the icebergs that fell from the northern part of Langtang is not dangerous for now.
According to Vinod Parajuli, head of the flood forecasting division, the Chinese team told the Nepali side that although the water level in the upper lake has increased slightly, it is not a dangerous situation.
After the iceberg fell, the first hole was formed in the upper part, while the second hole was formed in the upper part of the Lhende River. The Chinese team named the lake near the river as Barrier Lake One and the lake in the upper part as Barrier Lake Two.
"Since almost all the water has flowed from the lake in the lower part, it has been said that the water has not accumulated and there is no problem," Parajuli told Online Khabar.
Engineer Parajuli said that the Chinese team is observing the territory of Nepal on the other side of the Lhende river from its territory and is sending information about the lake. The lake in the upper part is about 0.19 square kilometers. It is estimated that the surface of the lake rose by two meters and accumulated about 600,000 cubic meters of water.
Parajuli said, "The Chinese team is constantly sending information about the lake. Their suggestion is that there is no risk from the lake water in the current situation.
After the Rasuwa flood on August 10, two lakes were formed near the Nepal-China border in the northern part of the Langtang mountain. Four days later, another flood occurred in Bhotekoshi when the lower of the two ponds collapsed and the water flowed out. Parajuli said that after the second flood, the lake was drained.
