19 August, Kathmandu. The Nepali karate team will make further preparations for the 20th Asian Games to be held in Japan. The team will be training at the World Shitorio Karate Main Dojo in Tokyo, Japan from September 6th to 16th.
The team left for Japan on Friday. The karate team is the first to reach Japan out of the 22 sports that Nepal will participate in Asiad.
The karate team from Tokyo will arrive in Nagoya on September 17 to participate in Asiad. Karate will be held from September 20th to 23rd.
Rakesh Manandhar under 55 kg, Min Bahadur Tamang under 60 kg, Tenzing Sherpa over 84 kg will compete. Erika Gurung, historical silver winner of the 19th Asiad in women's over 68 kg, Nirupa Dong Tamang in under 68 kg and Sanumaya Thing in single kata will present Nepal's challenge. Along with Sanumaya, Alyssa Rascotti and Megha Limbu will also participate in Team Kata.
Coaches include Kushal Shrestha and Mandekaji Shrestha. After Asiad karate, this team will participate in the 11th Shitoryo Karate International Championship organized by the World Shitoryo Karate Federation in Yokohama, Japan from September 25th to 27th. Nepal has so far won 1 silver and 3 bronze medals in different editions of the Asian Games.
Minister of Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel, Vice President of the National Sports Council (Rakhep) Vishal Shrestha, Rakhep Member-Secretary Ram Charitra Mehta, Chief Adviser of the Ministry of Education and Sports Siddhi Vyanjankar and Advisor Raju Singh, Former Rakhep Member-Secretary and President of Nepal Karate Federation Yuvraj Lama, Rakhep Executive Committee Member Sikka Suwal Shrestha, Nepal Karate Federation General Secretary Dawa Gurung and others bid farewell to the team at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Friday. did
Addressing the program, Minister Pokharel wished the players for excellent results, urging them to participate in the competition without pressure even though they had high expectations.
