KATHMANDU- The Chairman of the main opposition party Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that it is a serious matter that the inquiry has not started even after a week since the resignation of the former Minister of Communications in the Security Printing Press case.
Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives, Deuba said that there was a serious intention behind the investigation not being started even after more than a week since the resignation of former Minister of Communication and Information Technology Gokul Baskota. Chairman Deuba also accused the government of taking the white paper of Nepal Trust to divert attention from the irregularity of the security printing press case. He clarified that there was no decision during his tenure as Prime Minister as mentioned in the white paper of Nepal Trust. He objected to the white paper citing that his name was linked due to political bias.
Deuba asked the government to immediately remove the tax saying that the tax on petroleum products has increased the burden on the people.
Chairman Deuba mentioned that the corona virus has spread in more than 50 countries of the world and also drew the attention of the government to make necessary preparations. Deuba said that since the World Health Organization (WHO) has also said that Nepal is at high risk of Corona, the government should intensify its preparations. Deuba also urged the Nepalis abroad to be cautious.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was absent in the meeting. According to parliamentary convention, it is customary for the leader of the opposition party to be present when the prime minister speaks and the leader of the opposition party to be present when the leader of the opposition party speaks, but the prime minister was absent from today's meeting.
