Chitwan. The Division Forest Office, Chitwan, has started a campaign to monitor and confiscate the logs and firewood piled up on the banks of the Narayani River through Bhotekoshi and Trishuli. The office has requested the general public not to risk their lives or illegally collect wood from the river banks.
According to the head of the office and senior divisional forest officer, Bishnu Prasad Acharya, due to Rasuwa flood, fallen and drifted wood of Salla and Uttis in the hilly areas and Sal in the lower coastal areas have been piled up on the banks of the Narayani river in large quantities. The forest office started monitoring and control work after the local people started collecting wood randomly from the river bank. When the body was found on the river bank, people ignored the body and entered the river risking their lives to collect wood.
Chief Acharya said, "You can't pick up the wood washed away by the river. The wood collected in this way is illegal. Earlier, we were unable to take steps to control the wood because everyone was focused on dead body management. Now, since there are less dead bodies, we have started monitoring and controlling the wood on the river bank from today."
He said that especially from Devghat area of Narayani to Pulchok, around Bharatpur Metropolitan City-3 and along the river banks of Narayani, Dyaneshwar and Setidevi community forest areas, he said that a large amount of wood has been piled up.
Acharya said that everyone has been informed not to enter dangerous areas and extract wood, drag, cut, transport, sell-distribute or take possession of it.
